KT Rolster announced on the 15th of November the signing of DragonX’s former coaching staff, Kang “Hirai” Dong-hoon, Choi “Acorn” Cheon-ju and Choi “supreme” Seung-min. With Acorn and supreme supporting him, Hirai will lead KT Rolster next year as head coach.
KT has also announced that they have mutually agreed to part ways with their coaches Jung “NoEX” Je-seung and Son “Sonstar” Seung-ik. With this, KT Rolster’s 2019 coaching staff, ZanDarC, NoEX and Sonstar, is no longer with the team.
With Hirai as head coach, DragonX has been well known for their unique approach to nurturing young talent, operating at least 4 League of Legends teams with 20+ trainees and substitute players.
After their crowning as champions in 2018 Summer split, KT rebuilt their roster going into the 2019 season, signing players such as Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong and No “SnowFlower” Hoi-jong to their roster. However, the new iteration was unable to find success, having finished in 9th and 8th place in both Spring and Summer split respectively. Due to their results from Spring, KT was forced to play in the LCK Promotion Tournament, a first in the organization’s history.
With the rebuilding of their coaching staff seemingly complete, KT has one more herculean task ahead of them this offseason. With the departure of their jungler Score from the team due to imminent military service, there are question marks on how KT will reconstruct their roster with their longtime franchise player. Only time will tell if the 2020 season will prove to be a year of redemption for KT Rolster.
