On the 17th of September, DRX announced that they have mutually agreed to part ways with coach Park “dongHo” Dong-ho and top laner Yoon ‘Destroy’ Jeong-min.
dongHo has previously been the registered coach for DRX Rookie, one of the many trainee teams of the organization. With him overseeing the team, DRX Rookie saw great successes in the LCK Academy Series, including winning the Championship, the major competition with an amalgamation of top teams from multiple open tournaments. At the onset of the 2021 season, dongHo was promoted to join DRX’s LCK coaching staff.
Destroy, former top laner for Spear Gaming in Challengers Korea, was signed to DRX’s LCK roster alongside former KT and BLG top laner Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon. However, he only made one appearance in the whole 2021 season, matched up against Afreeca Freecs’ Kiin in Week 1 of the Summer Regular Season while Kingen replaced Song “SOLKA” Su-hyeong in mid lane.
In the 2021 Spring Split, DRX finished in 5th place, having managed to secure a playoffs spot despite a drastic rebuilding of their roster. However, DRX underwent a significant slump in the following Summer Split, finishing 10th place in the league and subsequently were eliminated from contention for both playoffs and World Championship qualification.
