On 16th of December, Royal Never Give Up announced the team has signed Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong as the team’s new head coach.
Earlier the offseason, RNG announced it has parted ways with head coach Chou “Steak” Lu-Hsi and assistant coach Choi “DanDy” In-kyu. Now, Mata will look to fill the previous coaching staff’s shoes and recreate the success he has enjoyed as a player now as a coach.
Mata is one of the most decorated support player in the League of Legends scene. In 2014, Mata won the World Championship under Samsung White, with himself being crowned the MVP of the tournament. His prestigious international record is matched only by his dominance in domestic leagues, having won several LCK championships with multiple different teams, including MVP Ozone, KT Rolster, and SKT.
Notably, Mata had previously played in the LPL for Roral Never Give Up, winning the 2016 LPL Spring Split and representing the league in both MSI and the World Championship the same year.
In the coaching staff department, Mata will be supported by Sereno, previously a coach for Royal Club, RNG’s academy team, and Tabe, who will be joining the team as an analyst.
